Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

[edit]

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. List of Rozen Maiden characters closed as no consensus

[edit]

Hi. I'd like to argue that the AFD's consensus is closer towards redirect/merge, than no consensus. I'd like to discuss this before considering a deletion review. Thanks. DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 02:51, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi there! As I see it, there are suggestions to redirect/merge, but there are just as many keeps/deletes with equally valid reasoning. As I understand it, "no consensus" doesn't mean that the article must be kept as-is. I believe you are free to merge and redirect to your heart's content. Joyous! | Talk 03:06, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
If I ask the users who voted delete if they would consider a redirect merge, could you change it from no consensus to redirect/merge? I believe the deletes and redirect/merge votes together gives the overall impression this article should go. Thanks DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 03:10, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
Honestly, I'm reluctant to change the stated decision after the AFD has closed, based on a request like this, because I think it sets a bad precedent. I actually think that the "keeps" and the "redirect/merges" suggest that there is some quality material in the article that we don't want to lose. If you'd like to ask for a deletion review, my feelings won't be hurt. In fact, I'm right there with you in thinking handling the article that way is a good idea--I just didn't see enough consensus to close that way. Joyous! | Talk 03:17, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
Hi, I have listed for a review here. Thanks DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 03:35, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
And I've replied there. We'll see if this doesn't go down in wiki-history as one of the friendliest deletion reviews ever. Joyous! | Talk 03:53, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Joyous. So I thought the DRV was for admins only so I didn't consider contacting people from the AFD. Would it help at the DRV if I ask the people who voted for delete if they would consider changing their votes to redirect instead and linking their response there? Or should I just wait and see how this plays out. Thanks. DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 06:26, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

@DragonZero: Hello again! There's really no need to contact people who voted in the AfD. The article is free to edit now! Please, merge to your heart's content! If you want to talk about the merge and how best to do it, the discussion should take place on the article's Talk Page, or on the talk page of the article you're merging to, so you're talking with people who know something about the topic. There was absolutely nothing in the way the AfD closed that prohibits what you're wanting to do. Joyous! | Talk 00:10, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Joyous. I was doing a straw vote and was told no consensus means it automatically defaults to keep. It appears I won't be allowed to redirect the page after all. DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 09:38, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

AFD

[edit]

Hi Joyous!, Could you revert your closure at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Darcy Isa as there was no consensus to keep and not one person was able to support their keep !vote with any sources, 2 out of the 3 keeps were more or less WP:ILIKEIT so I would kindly ask if you would revert your closure, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 01:53, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

Closing changed to "No consensus." That's as far as I feel I can go. Joyous! | Talk 02:02, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
I appreciate you changing it but this was a straight-cut delete, There wasn't any consensus to keep whatsoever (nor did it reach a no consensus outcome) and no one could reply because they didn't have an actual reason - They just saw her on tv and they wanted it kept purely for that reason, As I said not one person could provide any reliable sources (because there is none) so I'd ask if you would kindly reopen it, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 02:12, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but I'm not willing to change to a delete decision. I won't object if you would like to open a deletion review on the decision. I have no dog in the fight--I'm just interpreting the discussion differently than you. Perhaps I'll learn something. :-) Joyous! | Talk 02:17, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

@Aarohanp:I'm sorry that the article has been deleted. The consensus of the editors at the discussion Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Bimlesh_Adhikari is that the subject doesn't meet our requirements about actors and models. You can read those requirements at WP:NACTOR. Please don't continue to re-create the article without making changes that address the concerns at the deletion discussion. Hello Joyous,

I had just noticed that you blocked this IP address for only 60 hours, when the previous block was for 6 months. I just thought that I'd let you know of this, just in case if this was an accident... cheers. 2601:1C0:106:6A97:29F2:8F3F:6D6B:DA5B (talk) 02:14, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Yes, I saw that, and agonized a bit. There are just enough good edits mixed in with the trash that I didn't want to go forever with it. I have them watchlisted, so if they come back with vandal-guns a'blazing, I'll do an extended block. Perhaps I'm getting soft in my old age.  :-) Joyous! | Talk 02:18, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Freshdesk

[edit]

Hi Joyous, This is regarding the deletion of Freshdesk Page. I see that you deleted the page. I mentioned my query in the deletion discussion page and i didnt get any response for that, it would have been better, if you would have replied for that and deleted this so atleast i would have got an answer for my query. Can you guide me on how the resources should be because whenever i write any articles, i take reference of other wikipedia articles . for example i took these as references, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicole_Delien https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zendesk I would like you to suggest a solution for this instead of deletion. . I would like to know which sources do you think are ok, in general, any user who is willing to contribute in wiki will depend upon the news sources considering that news sources will be reliable. I believe news published in the reliable news websites will be of proper one and generally people believe those sources are from the reputed news sources. Whenever i write any article, i always consider other wiki pages for references. Do you think are the sources mentioned in this wiki pages are reliable? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felix_Khuner in this wiki article, i see the sources are from only google. Also the same over here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_and_Jordan_Kandell this article uses imdb as the sources and news websites too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slim_Brundage here too it has only google links as sources. What would i generally suggest is, rather deleting the articles, it would be better if we fine tune and make it as the best one. This will also boost the wiki users to write more articles in a proper way and also we can have some good articles on wiki. I expect your opinion on this User:Barath Rajendran ( talk ) 10:50, 2 December 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Barath Rajendran (talkcontribs)

Hi Joyous!, I'm not sure if you're aware but there's a huge discussion at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Deletion_process#Proposal:_AfD_with_no_participants_should_be_relisted_indefinitely.2C_not_closed.2C_until_there_is_at_least_one_other_participant and basically in short editors at the moment believe AFDs like the above (ie no !votes or little !votes) should be WP:SOFTDELETED instead of closed as No Consensus so would you be open to overturning your close to SOFTDELETE? (there's an option I think where when you delete it you can click on something that says something like "if you want this undeleted go to wp:refund or something to include in the log)
If you're not up for overturning I'll just renominate but thought I'd ask first :),
Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 01:12, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Sure. I wavered back and forth between SOFTDELETE and NO CONSENSUS for quite a while on this one, so it's not much of a mind-change. Joyous! | Talk 01:15, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
Oh brilliant thank you :), have a great day. –Davey2010Talk 01:25, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

The Challenge Series

[edit]

The Challenge Series is a current drive on English Wikipedia to encourage article improvements and creations globally through a series of 50,000/10,000/1000 Challenges for different regions, countries and topics. All Wikipedia editors in good standing are invited to participate.

Hi! You can simply relist the subject AFD instead of closing as no consensus as no consensus actually means keep. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 05:01, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

I disagree. The closing noted that the "no consensus" meant that there was no consensus to delete the article. Beyond that, interested editors are welcome to edit it as they feel best, including merging/redirecting. The AfD did not bind the article in its current form--it was merely pointed out that there was no agreement that it needed to go, and several people thought redirect/merge was a good idea. Joyous! | Talk 03:21, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
This is lousy admining. Had you closed it as redirect/merge we would not have to deal with enthusiastic newbies. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 04:39, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi Joyous!,

I just saw your closure at Bernie or Bust. Besides my initial vote of Delete and/or Merge, I saw 3 more votes for Merge and 2 for keep = 4 merge and 2 keep? Would you review this closure please?

Thanks -- Dane2007 talk 01:15, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi, @Dane2007: My view of closing the AfD was helping decide whether or not the article should be deleted. Obviously, it should not, based on the comments from various editors. Beyond that, whether or not the article should stand by itself or should be merged is more appropriately handled at the Talk:Bernie or Bust page. I lack any sort of history with that page. Feel free to conduct a straw poll there. I'll be glad to add a "strong suggestion to merge" to my closing statement, but I'm not willing to say that merging is what MUST happen. Joyous! | Talk 01:24, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! I see your point and will bring it to the talk page. Sometimes I need to revisit this so I remember to determine arguments not votes. -- Dane2007 talk 01:35, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Not a problem! Enjoy hashing out the decision! Joyous! | Talk 01:38, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

I merged the content from the Cheyenne Madonna article page to the author's article. I am guessing the next step is to change the page to a redirect, but I wasn't sure if there was any special messaging or {{R to}} message for this scenario.

I also updated all the links in articles and a file summary. Since I think in all cases they also mentioned Chuculate, I just removed the links for Cheyenne Madonna. I don't know what happens with the talk page, so I left it.--CaroleHenson (talk) 01:33, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

@CaroleHenson: Wow. This is embarrassing to confess, but I'm not familiar with the whole {{R to}} system. It must have sprung up during the years that I was mostly off-Wiki. I'll go ahead and create the redirect. The rest of the merging process is listed at WP:MERGETEXT. I've already done Step 3, "creating the redirect." Joyous! | Talk 01:48, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Ok, thanks! I think I figured out which template to use. I'll check the rest of the steps, too.--CaroleHenson (talk) 01:50, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Update: Okay, I finished all the steps from WP:SMERGE - except removing the links from user and wikiproject pages, but it sounds like a bot will do that in a few days. Thanks!--CaroleHenson (talk) 02:05, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
You're welcome! Thanks for jumping in and completing the merge. Joyous! | Talk 02:07, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

can you please explain or elaborate why Gibran Noorani article deleted ?

the person has his own identity and needs to be on wikipedia for the only purpose I created his article not for him but for the shows he has Written

I'm sorry. The consensus of editors at this discussion indicate that Gibran Noorani doesn't meet our qualifications for an article. Joyous! | Talk 12:08, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for the closing the discussion as keep. It really feels good for ones work to outlive an AfD. I would like to know if you can help by providing insights from your long experience on Wikipedia on how one can become a better editor. I'd like to be mentored, watched and corrected-when necessary by you. I don't know if I'm asking too much but going through your contributions make me feel willing to do my little bit. And your User page says you've been since 2004! Wow!, before I even entered high school! Mahveotm (talk) 14:01, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

@Mahveotm: The best advice I have is: to become a better editor, read and edit. I would suggest finding topics that you are interested in that are already articles, and make them better, before you worry too much about adding new articles. Joyous! | Talk 19:16, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello Joyous,

It is regarding deletion of Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Kraftly. I can see you have marked it as advertisement and I can assure you that I have no affiliation with this company. One of the reason for this page because in recent times it got lots of press coverage from independent sources. From the sources 'newspaper' in India google don't have this source it only works with news.google.com. You can try with searching other reputed organisation with newspaper source (site:news.google.com/newspapers). I'm understanding your point that it looks like a advertisement because of history section but it is not true that it is promotional stuff and recently Govt. of India tie up with this company for promoting 'Indian Handloom'. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/kraftly-ties-up-with-the-ministry-of-textiles-to-promote-handlooms-and-empower-weavers-artisans/articleshow/55289545.cms Would love to make edits if you feel it is looking more of advertisement rather than informational piece of content. Your insights are really helpful and I'd like to make necessary changes to it. Raghavhere (talk) 16:29, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

Request to review decision to delete Tom Lonsdale article

[edit]

Hello Joyous. Part of the process for requesting a review of a deletion decision is that the requester must first contact the person who deleted the article. Thus I am now contacting you regarding this deletion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Tom_Lonsdale_(2nd_nomination). I've looked at the discussion. I should mention that I only became aware of the discussion this month, but had I been aware of this nomination there would have been two against the deletion. My concerns with the deletion are basically twofold: 1. I don't think that those suggesting the deletion have backed up their claim with reference to the relevant sections of Wikipedia, or have cited Wikipedia policies which are demonstrably not relevant. For instance, one objector claims that Lonsdale fails both WP:ENT and WP:PROF. This is quite mystifying, given that Lonsdale is neither an entertainer nor an academic. The same objector suggests that the article fails WP:GNG, although does not point to the specific part of that policy which he/she believe that the article supposedly fails. 2. By contrast, I believe any reasonable observer would see that the article does satisfy the threshold test as set down in WP:N, and in particular item 6 'Notable topics have attracted attention over a sufficiently significant period of time'. The policy goes on to state: "sustained coverage is an indicator of notability". I think there is objective evidence of sustained coverage, in that Lonsdale has been interviewed by numerous media outlets, in a number of countries, over a number of decades. These media outlets include the ABC and established current affairs programmes. Now, it does happen to be the case that Lonsdale is a controversial character - I don't know if this is an influencing factor in the deletion claims. I'm not saying that this is necessarily the case, but I'm just flagging this. In summary, I think it is important that decisions such as deletion be based on Wikipedia policies, and that those advocating deletion should point not merely to relevant Wikipedia policies, but to the relevant parts of the policies, to support the claims to deletion. I don't think this happened in this case, and thus I think there is a strong case the deletion should be reversed. Look forward to hearing from you on this. Research17 (talk) 01:24, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Just a brief reminder of my request last December (as above) for you to review your deletion decision. Look forward to your decision, and also your response to the issues raised above. Research17 (talk) 06:33, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

Undelete Gammadyne Mailer

[edit]

Please reverse your deletion of Gammadyne Mailer. There has not been enough time for a discussion on the deletion. No one in the current discussion has been in favor of deletion. And for what it's worth, I do not think this article should be deleted. There are many articles on software. If you think the article needs improvement, then state your opinion or improve the article yourself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.126.68.153 (talk) 00:56, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Please Undelete Dave and Chuck "The Freak"

[edit]

The radio morning show Dave and Chuck "The Freak" is a national show, in two different markets and also online ability to listen anywhere. Can this be undeleted? A few years ago I spent many hours and weeks editing this page with many news sources and I was hurt to see it deleted months ago. DetroitViper (talk) 03:38, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

Hey, Dave and Chuck "The Freak" might have been irrelevant at the time of deletion but they just recently expanded their listening audience to a second market by syndicating in Boston, which expanded their listening audience to Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. If deletion is reversed I can easily add national articles right off the bat and trim out the fan service to make it more fact based and make sure everything is cited. The national expansion of their listening audience alone has to warrant some kind of probation for the page so it can be improved upon. Deletions

[edit]

I've recently been reviewing a few of my deleted articles, including Kevin McClintock[1]. Since your deletion, the subject has become the youngest or one of the youngest columnists for El Nuevo Día, Puerto Rico's oldest and most influential newspaper. He's been elected national president of YDA's Hispanic Caucus, and at the age of 21 already had been a delegate to two Democratic National Conventions, an accomplishment I doubt more than a handful of Americans have achieved. I've also discovered that he appeared in the credits as an actor in a Disney made-for-TV movie, an aspect of his life that I'd not discovered before. He, along with Julio Cabral Corrada, whose article I've just updated to note his creation of Puerto Rico Rising, which has played a significant role in channeling disaster relief by mainland-based Puerto Rican millenials, are young leaders in PR that are being recognized, read and followed by their peers as well as by their elders.

My request for advice to you is, for example, in the Kevin McClintock, when is the notability separate from being the offspring of notable parents achieved to trigger me to prepare another article reflecting his subsequent accomplishments (young columnist, national leadership positions amount young politicians, etc)? [edit]

Hello, Joyous!. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Adam Murciano

[edit]

Hi there. I have proposed the deletion of Adam Murciano, which was re-created after being deleted once already, even though, in my opinion, it still fails the notability requirements. I noticed you have participated in previous AfD discussions and wanted to invite you to join the discussion here if you have time. Thank you. Kim Leung (talk) 09:14, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

[edit]

Information icon Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in more than one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three-year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three-year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. — xaosflux Talk 14:26, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

[edit]

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Request for recreation of the page CarryMinati

[edit]

I request you to recreate the page on CarryMinati. Even though he did not have a significant YouTube presence at the time of deletion, a significant amount of time has elapsed since then. Ajey Nagar aka CarryMinati has gone on to amass 6,877,983 subscribers on his primary channel and 2,108,678 subscribers on his gaming channel. More importantly though, he has been named by TIME as one of the world's top 10 'Next Generation Leaders' alongside The Weekend and Hasan Minhaj. It is in my opinion impossible to disregard such a person as the TIME magazine is highly regarded and even leaders of countries are not guaranteed a spot in one of their articles or lists. Pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

[edit]

Information icon Established policy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have not made any edits or logged actions in the preceding twelve months. Because you have been inactive, your administrative permissions will be removed if you do not return to activity within the next month.

Inactive administrators are encouraged to rejoin the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to rejoin the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request at the bureaucrats' noticeboard.

Thank you for your past contributions to the project. — JJMC89 bot 00:04, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
